The Italian Society for Optics and Photonics (SIOF, Società Italiana di Ottica e Fotonica) was founded in 1991 with the goal of promoting the research activities in the field of optics and photonics and coordinate them all over the national territory by favoring the spread of knowledge and the organization of scientific events, schools, conferences, and workshops, with a special emphasis on the formation of young scientists.
La Società Italiana di Ottica e Fotonica esprime profondo cordoglio per la scomparsa del Prof. Riccardo Pratesi, Ordinario di Struttura della Materia e poi Professore Emerito dell'Università di Firenze, pioniere della ricerca sui laser in Italia e tra i protagonisti internazionali dello sviluppo delle loro applicazioni in campo medico.
